The Cabin: In the Beginning

This is a good time to properly introduce the cabin. Or shed. Or shack. (Cabin will work.)

It appears to be three buildings that were salvaged and reassembled in a whole new (wonky) way. There is not one right angle anywhere. My husband and I believe they found a shed, disassembled it somewhere it and reassembled in here; then they found an attic type space and they dropped the whole thing on top of the shed; then, because of the roof the attic provided, they built a covered porch out of whatever else they had.

It has an 8' x 14' floor space in the downstairs and an 18' x 14' (kind of--minus a huge gap) loft. Let me show you:

At this time one needs a ladder to access the "Loft"
The structure was built by a Black Powder group who were friends with the previous owner of the property. The group was allowed to host it's yearly gathering on this land. The cabin was used to register people for shooting events, storage for targets, medallions and ribbons, weapons and ammo, etc. That's why it has this giant hinged "window" area--which is one of my favorite things about it:

The cabin was also used to house a variety of dead animals, their large supply of feces and nests, a colony of carpenter ants and, my favorite and most personally impactful,  dozens of burgeoning wasp's nests. This is what it still looked like after two days of clearing out the leftover junk:

The downstairs looked something like this only a lot worse--I failed to take photos when I was truly intimidated by its filth:

But I have new best friend, her name is Bleach, and she paved the way for me to eventually start laying on the floor and poking my fingers into holes and crevices  I wouldn't have touched before with a ten foot pole.

But, it turned out, to feel really okay, I had to tear everything out:

And that's when I stopped trying to do everything fast, and things changed dramatically.
